Benefits of an Apprenticeship Program

  • Learn from a master craftsman while working and earning money,
  • Qualifies you for a higher level of pay, the more you learn, the more you earn,
  • Exposes you to the latest technology and building codes,
  • Offers you lifelong job mobility through a nationally recognized certification program of your skills.

  • Learn from a Master Craftsman

Each apprentice is paired with a journeyman in their chosen trade.  It’s like having your own personal tutor.  You will be learning valuable skills while mastering a trade. Your chosen trade is a four-year program that consists of on-the-job training and correspondence testing and reporting.  What you learn on the job is repeated and reinforced in your test books.

  • Qualifies you for a higher level of pay

As an apprentice you start out earning 50% of a journeyman's wages, which can range anywhere from $18 - $34 per hour.  The more you work the more you test the higher your pay goes.  Earn while you learn!

  • Exposes you to the latest technology and building codes

Technology has made its way into the construction trade and has made construction a high-tech employment opportunity.  It’s not about “just swinging a hammer” anymore.

  •  Offers you lifelong job mobility through a nationally recognized certification program

ABC of Alaska’s apprenticeship program is a registered program with the Federal Department of Labor and is accredited through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).
